Kids at Our UM Table: Sinampalukang Manok

Jaguar Pascual started cooking in 2023 at the age of three. Jodel Pascual says his son wanted to learn how to cook rice, and Jaguar’s interest in cooking took off from there. In this video, the young chef shows us how he makes Sinampalukang Manok for his family.

Sinampalukang Manok is a comfort food in the Philippines. It’s a chicken soup in a sour broth flavored with unripe tamarind fruit and tamarind leaves, which give the soup its signature sour taste. Sinigang Sampaloc is similar to a soup called sinigang. This particular recipe uses a pre-made soup base called Sinigang Sampaloc with Gabi Mix, which combines the flavors of tamarind and taro root (gabi).
