Native American Food Preservation

There are more than 500 currently recognized Native American tribes in the United States. Food staples cultivated by indigenous peoples include corn, beans, squash, potatoes, pumpkins, sunflowers, tomatoes, peppers, and wild rice. Mary T. Newman is the coordinator for the Committee on Native American Ministries for the Tennessee Conference of The United Methodist Church. Mary T. tells us some of the food preservation methods used by indigenous peoples.
