Glossary: shrine

A building linked with significant events or outstanding personalities or both in the origin and development of The United Methodist Church. An historic shrine is designated because it is considered to have distinct historic value and interest for the denomination as a whole. A building is designated an historic shrine by action of the General Conference upon the recommendation of the General Commission on Archives and History.
