Glossary: chalice

The container or vessel used to hold the wine in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion. The chalice is also referred to as the "Cup," which is the word used in the Service of the Word and Table (The Lord's Supper). Although chalices are often made of silver, they may be fashioned from any appropriate material.
