Get Them Talking is a series of monthly resources to help families lead conversations about issues of faith during dinner, devotions, a drive or anytime .
Scripture
“It is written, You will be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 Common English Bible
Reflection
The Bible says we are supposed to be holy because God is holy. And it doesn’t just say it once, but at least twice. This verse is quoting another verse, Leviticus 19:2. But what does it mean to be holy?
It means that we are supposed to live the way God wants us to live. We are to love and forgive others the way Jesus forgives us. And we are to encourage people the way the Holy Spirit encourages us.
When we try to please God instead of seeking something else, we are striving to be more holy.
Get them talking
- When you think of someone or something that is holy, what comes to mind?
- Have you ever tried to impress someone? What did you do?
- What are some of the ways God shows love to you? What would it look like to love others the way God loves you?
Prayer
Dear God, we want to be more like you: more loving, forgiving, encouraging, and holy. Amen.
Activity
Set aside a holy time and/or a holy space in your home. What will you put there? Why? What will happen there?
