Get Them Talking is a series of resources to help families start conversations about issues of faith.

Scripture

The Word became flesh and made his home among us. John 1:14 Common English Bible

Reflection

Your home is a special place. Whether it is a house, an apartment, or a room you share with extended family or friends, your home is the place where you get to live with the people you love best. The Bible tells us that when God was looking for a home, a place to live with the people God loves best, he chose to make his home among us.

Kids (and their parents) may sometimes imagine God as an old, bearded man in the sky far away. Christmas tells us that nothing could be farther from the truth. God does live far away, but has chosen instead to be at home with us. Jesus’s birth is a celebration of God with us. Here. Now.

Get them talking

  • Have you ever been homesick? Why did you want to go home?
  • What makes your home a special place? Who are the people who make your house your home?
  • When do you feel Jesus closest to you?
  • How does it feel knowing that God chose to make his home with you?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for making your home with us. Amen.
