Reflection
There are times in life when we must be serious—like school and work. But other times, we need to celebrate. Sometimes we celebrate amazing things happening in our lives—like birthdays, good grades, or holidays. Other times, we celebrate the important people in our lives—Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, a friend’s graduation.
Jesus liked to celebrate! In the Bible, we read about him going to weddings and big dinners at other people’s houses. In today’s reading, Jesus is the host of a bit of a surprise party just because so many people are together.
Get them talking
- What is your favorite reason to celebrate?
- For more than a year, many of us have not been able to celebrate in person. When you can, who is the first person you want to invite to your house? Whose house do you want to go to? Why do you want to celebrate with that person?
- Why do you think Jesus asks the people to sit “as though they were having a banquet on the green grass”?
- Why are celebrations important to Jesus?
Prayer
Dear God, fill us with grateful hearts that want to celebrate! Amen.
Activity
