COB Leadership Gathering Participants Reflect Worldwide, Intergenerational Voices
Washington, D.C. — The Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church has released the list of participants for the 2026 Leadership Gathering - a diverse group of emerging and established leaders from across the United Methodist connection.
Under the theme “Emboldened by the Spirit: Imagining a Church Yet to Be,” the gathering will take place October 20–24, 2026, at Knox United Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, bringing together nearly 300 participants, including bishops, clergy, lay, young adults, and worldwide leaders.
A key feature of the gathering is the intentional inclusion of at least one young adult under the age of 35 from every episcopal area, ensuring that the imagination and insight of the next generation are woven directly into the church’s ongoing discernment.
The participant list also reflects robust engagement from African, European, and Filipino contexts, strengthening the denomination’s commitment to collaborative leadership across cultures and continents. To support equitable access, organizers have implemented formalized visa assistance processes and comprehensive multilingual translation services, removing barriers to full participation.
As The United Methodist Church continues to navigate a season of renewal and possibility, this leadership gathering stands as a testament to its commitment to inclusive leadership, faithful discernment, and a vibrant worldwide witness.
“This gathering points to the future God is shaping among us,” said Bishop Tracy S. Malone, president of the Council of Bishops. “By bringing together leaders from every region of our worldwide connection — especially our young leaders — we are creating space for the Holy Spirit to guide us toward a future marked by hope, courage, and shared vision.”
The list of participants as of February 6, 2026 is available online on the Council of Bishops website.
