The 2020 General Conference was originally scheduled for May 5-15, 2020 in Minneapolis. The coronavirus pandemic led to a decision to reschedule the meeting for late summer of 2021. As the pandemic persisted, the Commission on the General Conference rescheduled the gathering a second time to Aug. 29-Sept. 6, 2022, in Minneapolis. And it is now rescheduled again to some point in 2024 because of ongoing travel restrictions and difficulties in obtaining visas for many delegates in time for the proposed 2022 session.

The many plans and proposals to restructure, divide, or even dissolve The United Methodist Church that would have been addressed in 2020 will now be considered when General Conference meets in 2024.
