Advent Photo-a-Day 2024

There's joy in connection. Let's dive into something reflective and meaningful together this Advent season!

Advent is the season leading up to Christmas. It is 24 days of preparation. This year, we're inviting you to prepare by looking for the visual reminders of God's presence... daily.

We offer a practice for the Advent season that we hope is more meaningful and rewarding than it is hard: Our Advent Photo-a-Day Challenge. Each day during the season of Advent, we'll post a word for reflection on both The United Methodist Church's Facebook page as well as The UMC Instagram account. Take a moment (or several moments) of pause and reflection, then share a response to that word through a picture posted on social media. Post your picture on social media with #AdventPAD--or tag us directly on Facebook with @TheUnitedMethodistChurch.

Don't worry if you miss a day or two--there's no failing this challenge. (And we know you don't need the extra pressure!) We just hope to provide a gift of added meaning to this special season.

Each day we'll consider a word and respond through sharing a social media picture

The words for this year's Advent Photo-a-Day are inspired by the Revised Common Lectionary readings for the Advent season. The Lectionary is a three-year cycle of recommended scripture readings that is utilized by many churches across the United States and Canada. The readings for this Advent cycle (and the days they influenced in our Photo-a-Day practice) are:

  • December 1-7: Jeremiah 33:14-16
  • December 8-14: Malachi 3:1-4
  • December 15-21: Zephaniah 3:14-20
  • December 22-25: Luke 2:1-20
