Glossary: retirement, mandatory

The process which requires the retirement of ordained and diaconal ministers when they have reached age seventy two on or before July 1.   A bishop shall be  retired on August 31 following the regular session of the Jurisdictional Conference if the bishop's sixty-eighth birthday has been reached on or before July 1 of the year in which the Jurisdictional Conference is held. A bishop in a central conference shall be retired at a date no later than three months following the adjournment of General Conference, if the bishop's sixty-eigth birthday is reached on or before hte opening day of his or her scheduled conference effective on January 1, 2016.
