Get Them Talking is a series of monthly resources to help families lead devotion, dinnertime, or anytime conversations about issues of faith.

Scripture Reading

"We remain pure. We understand completely what it means to serve God. We are patient and kind. We serve him in the power of the Holy Spirit. We serve him with true love." 2 Corinthians 6:6 NIRV

Reflection

The Bible teaches that one of the ways we can serve God every day is by being kind. Kindness is not something we do in big ways. Instead we show kindness in little things like thinking of others’ needs, wants and feelings. It can be as simple as sharing something, being patient, or including someone in a game or conversation.

Sometimes being kind is difficult, especially to people who have been unkind to us. But God tells us that when we are kind, we are doing what he wants us to do.

Get them talking

  • Who have been some of the kindest people in your life (teachers, family members, friends)?
  • Tell about a time someone surprised you with their kindness.
  • What are some things you could do to show kindness to others?

Prayer

Dear God, remind me to think of others so that I can show kindness and serve you. Amen.

Activity

Brainstorm ways each family member can show kindness to one another, classmates, coworkers, and strangers. Be sure to include those who have been unkind to us in the past. Share your successes with one another each day.
