Francis Asbury: A Flame Spirit

In this brief documentary, the United Methodist General Commission on Archives & History (GCAH) retraces the life of the first American Methodist Bishop, Francis Asbury. Asbury came from England to the American territories where he spent the rest of his life traveling on horseback and preaching.

“The Methodist message that he brought was that God’s love can be experienced by everyone and that once it’s experienced by everyone the Holy Spirit takes up residence in your life and makes a difference,” says The Rev. Alfred T. Day III, former GCAH General Secretary. Asbury's efforts helped make Methodism the largest Protestant church body in America.
